Choosing life

To the editor:

Regarding “The top civil liberty: the right to stay alive,” Ron Isaac’s column in the March 24 issue of The Chief:

Isaac’s column appears right below letters addressing the municipal retiree health care topic.

Senior citizens and municipal retirees have a right to the Medicare and supplemental health insurance for which they worked and which they were promised.

Medicare Advantage programs use artificial intelligence algorithms to approve or deny care.

There are lawsuits against managed care programs for denying care, which is done often without even looking at patients’ records and history, and also delaying care, causing great harm to seniors, many of whom count on these programs to stay alive. The Department of Justice is investigating many of these programs for fraud and overbilling.

New York municipal retirees want the opportunity that goes with Medicare and Senior Care to stay alive, just like those in Isaac’s article.
