Despite pronounced opposition from some community groups, the City Council has approved a $2 billion redevelopment project that will bring apartments, shops, open and entertainment space to a five-acre slice of Astoria.
Approval of Innovation QNS came after Julie Won, the Council member who represents the neighborhood where it will be built, sanctioned the project after weeks of opposition to earlier plans because, she argued, they lacked sufficient affordable housing.
