Members of Los Deliveristas Unidos came out to support City Council bills that would expand the city’s minimum wage protections for restaurant delivery workers to those who deliver groceries — but also called on local lawmakers to close loopholes that have made it difficult for workers to receive fair pay.
The city last year enacted a law requiring app-based restaurant delivery workers to be paid a minimum of $19.56 an hour. Council Member Sandy Nurse recently introduced a bill that would immediately grant the same minimum wage protections to grocery store delivery workers.
