In the aftermath of January’s Twin Parks Bronx fire that claimed the lives of 17 residents, eight of them children, the City Council passed a series of bills last week to address faulty self-closing doors as well as defective space heaters.
Although investigators determined a space heater had initially caused the fatal fire, they blamed the deaths largely on doors that had not closed correctly, leaving toxic smoke to travel unimpeded up the stairwells of the high-rise complex.
