The very people who provide health and medical care to New Yorkers, FDNY EMS workers, would get expanded access to wellness programs themselves under a proposal unveiled this week by the City Council’s Progressive Caucus.
A $1 million budget allocation would create a pilot “Wellness & Peer Support Program” that includes a crisis hotline, dedicated social workers, peer support staff and monthly support groups. The program, announced on the steps of City Hall Wednesday, is part of a $61 million budget request for Fiscal Year 2026 from the 19-member caucus.
