Legal advocates, employee rights groups and others are pushing for the City Council to pass a series of bills that would strengthen the city’s pay transparency laws and help address wage disparities faced by women and people of color.
Although the city’s salary transparency law requiring employers to include a “good faith” pay range within job postings took effect in November 2022, wage disparities persist. In New York City, women face an 8-percent pay gap, while women of color with the same education and experience face a 23-percent differential compared with their white male counterparts, according to data from the Center for New York City Affairs.
