DC 37 sues city over transfer of union members to private sector

District Council 37, the city’s largest public-sector union and one of its most politically powerful, is suing Mayor Eric Adams and his administration over the transfer of union members to the private sector, part of recently announced budget cuts.

The suit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court Wednesday, alleges that city departments violated local law by contracting out nearly 2,400 job training positions represented by DC 37 without having conducted “statutorily mandated cost-benefit analysis.”
