It’s no secret that Americans are feeling the pinch. The USDA places the monthly food budget for a family of four between $1,002 and $1,631 with the yearly cost of living rising 3 percent according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data. As wage earners struggle, the nation’s wealthiest are seeing their net worth soar, proving the old adage “the rich get richer and the poor get poorer." In raw numbers, the top one-percent now hold a larger share of America’s wealth (35 percent, roughly $56 trillion) than does the bottom ninety-percent (27 percent, roughly $43 trillion).
