To the editor:

The Israel-Palestine war has divided the city in a way that has few precedents. There have been hundreds of protests on the streets and on college campuses, either in support of Israel or in support of Palestine.

In 2024, New Yorkers should consider the following questions. Will Israel continue to carry out indiscriminate bombing of civilians which is a war crime? Will the Biden administration reconsider its unconditional military support of Israel after Secretary of State Blinken assured Congress, “It is incumbent on all countries to employ munitions [which we sell] consistent with international humanitarian laws”? Will the Biden administration stop backing Israel’s right-wing extremist government given its vehement rejection of a two-state solution, a decades-long policy objective of the United States?

Finally, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the war would continue for “many more months” until victory. Does victory include not only the destruction of Hamas and the release of hostages, but also the forcing of millions of Palestinians to leave Gaza and to leave the West Bank?
