Peter Ajemian, the orthopedist who pleaded guilty to faking disability claims for hundreds of Long Island Rail Road employees, is seeking to have his conviction vacated because the vast majority of his patients had their benefits reinstated, Newsday reported last week.
Dr. Ajemian, 66, is following the lead of Peter Lesniewski, another orthopedist, and Joseph Rutigliano, the president of United Transportation Union Local 645, who both filed motions to have their convictions in the same scheme overturned. Dr. Ajemian was sentenced to eight years in Federal prison and ordered to forfeit $233 million for his role in the scam.
