To the editor:

It seems there are no limits to which extremists within the GOP will go. Case in point is the Louisiana “freedom of speech” lawsuit barring anyone within the Biden Administration from speaking with social media executives regarding malicious misinformation. I guess if you work in or for the White House, your freedom to speak isn’t a right.

In an ironic twist, Trump-appointed Judge Terry Doughty likened the Biden administration to “an Orwellian Ministry of Truth” for its efforts to stem the spread of harmful lies. The Guardian reported that “Doughty is a jurist Republicans specifically seek out when shopping for a favorable forum. He has overseen more multi-state challenges to the Biden administration than any other judge.”

One of the main arguments used by GOP lawyers was that individuals have the right to determine “their own facts.”

So let’s take a look at some of the alternative facts that Doughty ruled are being unfairly censored: the 2020 election was stolen, January 6th rioters were peaceful and invited into the Capitol by the police, Covid-19 vaccines are ineffective and/or contain microchips, the U.S. started the war in Ukraine, the Democratic party is a front for a pedophile sex ring, the U.S. intelligence community is really a “deep state” working against the American people, immigration is a deliberate plot run by Jews to replace the white race, Jews also head the “New World Order” cabal that secretly controls global events, and mass shootings are staged in order to strip gun rights away from law-abiding citizens.

The above is only a partial list of the false, hateful venom being spread by right wing extremists via social media. The Biden administration would be guilty of dereliction of duty if they did not do everything possible to block such dangerous lies.
