Educational Regression

To the Editor: In the beginning of the 20th century, the Carnegie Foundation created the public-school system to educate industrial workers to run industry and gain the skills that would foster it, inclusive of a growing immigrant population.

Prior to this period, in the late 19th century, there were many businesses created by young entrepreneurs who were not mandated to be in school. It was an age of invention and these young capitalists began moving into economic areas controlled by the power brokers of the time.
