The leadership of a union representing FDNY EMTs and paramedics boycotted the National EMS Weekend of Honor in Virginia last week because an FDNY EMT who passed in the line of duty in 2023 was not among those honored for a second year in a row.
EMT Frederick Whiteside responded to ground zero following the attacks on the World Trade Center but he’s yet to be honored by the National EMS Memorial Service despite serving 22 years as an EMT and passing away following a cardiac arrest while on duty.
