June 24 was a good day for NYPD brass, with 22 officers promoted to Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief or Inspector. They were among 161 officers and 89 civilians who advanced in rank.
James W. Essig, commander of the Gun Violence Suppression Division, and Brian H. O’Neill, executive officer of the Internal Affairs Bureau, were promoted to Assistant Chief.
