Mark Rosenthal, a leader of the reform group within District Council 37 during the late 1990s who played a pivotal role in exposing the corruption that had infested the union at its highest levels, died July 15 at age 65.
His longtime lawyer, Arthur Schwartz, said in a phone interview the following afternoon that a cause of death was not yet known. He noted that Mr. Rosenthal had long suffered from diabetes and obesity and been felled by two strokes in the past.
