To the editor:
Given that some city agencies have authorized a portion of their employees to telework on certain days of the week, wouldn't it be reasonable to allow those workers to have additional telework days when the city declares an extreme heat emergency?
Workers who are not exhausted and perspiring from their commute on "heat days" would be better prepared, energetic and productive, notwithstanding reducing the burden on those workers with health issues.
Of course, the additional telework days would have to be arranged with supervisors so there is no shortage of workers at the worksite. Nobody knows how many such days there would be, but the season is short, and so is life.
