To the editor:
Why do so many critics of Donald J Trump attack his political positions, world view and economic strategies and not his horrific immorality? According to Pope Leo XIV, the Catholic bishops in the U.S., Senator Rafael Warnock (GA) and other religious leaders, the issue is not so much political as it is all about morality.
Pope Leo calls Trump’s actions toward immigrants and the poor immoral. Since some polls show that about 50 percent of Roman Catholics voted for Donald Trump in 2024, it should be interesting to see how they react to the criticism of Trump by Pope Leo and the Catholics bishops.
Senator Warnock, a moral leader in the image of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr, calls Trump evil. When an immoral and evil leader is challenged only for his politics, and morality is avoided, the evil leader can be seen as just another politician with different political opinions than our own.
This doesn’t begin to describe the horror and terror that a powerful and immoral leader can cause throughout the nation. I think it’s axiomatic that a truly immoral leader can never succeed as a positive force for the nation.
With regard to Trump, Pope Leo sees the common good, morality and compassion for all people are infinitely favorable to national and world conquest, jingoistic bullying and contempt for people who don’t worship him.
Senator Warnock said that Trump is unleashing evil on our streets and that the Trump administration is evil. The point is that Trump should be considered and called what he really is, an immoral monster, who jeopardizes and threatens our nation and world peace.
Treating him as just another politician gives Trump the upper hand and gives the radical right wing haters the platform from which they can lie and compete with people who have respect and compassion for other human beings regardless of race, ethnicity, gender and honest personal beliefs.

It is paradoxical how Gorman attempts to demonize Trump and his supporters while simultaneously praising the Democratic Party, which is pro-abortion and pro-euthanasia. As to Pope Leo XIV, he walks in the footsteps of his predecessor, Pope Francis.
Regarding Raphael Warnock, he is the junior U.S. Senator from Georgia, a liberal, and a Democrat— enough said!

I’d much rather post what Pope John Paul II stated, “To inflict harm, to promote violence, and to incite conflict constitutes a direct transgression against God and humanity.”
