To the editor:
President Trump says of New York City’s new mayor, “If you have a communist running New York, all you’re doing is wasting the money you’re sending them.” By that, I guess, he means the money goes to the people rather than into the pockets of the many billionaires in town.
It seems strangely inappropriate that the leader of the free world does not know the difference between a socialist and a communist. That’s like the difference between a Bernie Sanders and a Joseph Stalin. Quite a distance between the two, really.
On the other hand, Trump says of Chinese communist Xi, “I like him a lot.” My head is spinning now. Trump likes a foreign communist, but hates a domestic socialist.
By many people’s estimation, Trump is wasting money on National Guard deployments to Democrat-controlled cities, ICE detention centers like Alligator Alcatraz, his new $300 million luxury ballroom, his big boost in military spending in preparation for hot war in Latin America and many other projects. Who is he to criticize?
Does sending taxpayer money raised in New York City back to New York City really sound like such a horrible idea?
