To the Editor: I must respond to a recent letter (Harvey Brody, Nov. 6 issue) that falsely presumes that my career at the city Department of Transportation was not as "an actual public-sector employee" and that I served as a "political appointee" who enjoyed "the benefit of partisan political intervention."
For the record, I began city service in 1980 after passing the civil-service exam for Deckhand on the S.I. ferry. While working on the ferry nights and weekends for four years, I completed my education, earning a master's degree in Transportation Planning and Engineering from NYU's Polytechnic Institute (a.k.a. Brooklyn Polytech).
