A few of our stories and columns are now in front of the paywall. We at The Chief remain committed to independent reporting on labor and civil service. It's been our mission since 1897. You can have a hand in ensuring that our reporting remains relevant in the decades to come. Consider supporting The Chief, which you can do for as little as $3.20 a month.
To the editor:
"Forbes Union wins raises, job protections," article in the Sept. 11 edition of The Chief reports that unionized workers at that magazine ratified their first contract. It will include a minimum salary of $65,000 a year. This amounts to $31.25 an hour.
While that's not middle class in New York City, at least it's above poverty.
Then you go to page 23 for THE JOB CENTER. You find that New York City is hiring water ecology scientists for a starting salary of $52,804 a year. That's all for a scientist?
They are also seeking exterminators for a starting salary of $48,154 a year. Then there's the JOB OF THE WEEK. That's foresters starting at $50,458 per year.
So, Forbes pays much better than a city now run by a "socialist" mayor.
