After three-and-a-half years of negotiations on a first contract, a National Labor Relations Board administrative law judge determined that KIPP Academy Charter School engaged in bad faith bargaining by purposely stalling the bargaining process.
Although most schools within KIPP Academy’s charter network aren’t unionized, KIPP’s school in the South Bronx is a “conversion” charter that took over a public school, and about 80 employees at the charter’s elementary and middle school are represented by the United Federation of Teachers.
