Lacking power

To the editor:

The Chief article about electric mandates directed at for-hire vehicles (Aug. 25) was most distressing. It is bad enough to look around and see no infrastructure for electric charging, but for hard-working residents of NYC who can't afford the changes required nor find abundant charging stations, it screams government overreach.

My husband and I took a rare car service recently to go from Ocean Parkway in Kensington to Atlantic Avenue near Flatbush Avenue. As we entered the Prospect Expressway at Church Avenue, the car began to act up and almost sputter. Other cars began to honk. We were in shock and did not speak at first, but we eventually told the driver to pull over to the shoulder.

We asked what the problem was. He said he ran out of electricity! Luckily, the car was a hybrid, and after a while, he switched over to evil gasoline.

Why this working man did not know beforehand of his problem, we do not know. But this incident taught me that we are not ready for this drastic change that may be unnecessary to begin with.
