Medicare claims

To the editor:

The five officers of the Municipal Labor Committee wrote a Aug. 24th letter to City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams that falsely claimed that Intro 1099-2023, which would oblige the city to offer retirees the option of a Medigap supplemental insurance plan at no cost, is an attack on "collective bargaining.”

As an act of desperation they included unions not bound by the Taylor Law (32BJ SEIU, Actors' Equity, CWA District 1, 1199SEIU, Operating Engineers Local 14-14B, etc.) as being "in support" of this letter. It is interesting to note that 17 union presidents identified on the letterhead, while not signatories of the letter, might accept and condone the lies presented to the Council speaker.

Retirees and retirees in training should contact the UFA, UFOA, COBA, SEIU Local 246, PSC-CUNY, the Sanitation Officers Association, the LBA and DEA police unions, the Organization of Staff Analysts, Operating Engineers Local 30, the Doctors Council and other unions and seek clarity of their support for non-privatized retiree healthcare. Active and Retired Workers want Medicare protected and not diminished.

Unfortunately, all of those Unions are for the Dis- Advantage plan change since they traded in Retirees Healthcare for raises. Not one has spoken out about this evil plan by them & the Mayor.
