MTA hiring 800 station cleaners

Could have the most ever by mid-2023

Posted 12/2/22

In anticipation of reopening bathrooms in eight subway stations next year, the MTA is in the process of hiring more than 800 new cleaners to service stations and train cars throughout the system, even as ridership on the system remains well below pre-pandemic numbers.

The MTA is slated to begin reopening bathrooms in January, and will start with unlocking the facilities in eight of the 69 stations that have bathrooms: 161st Street-Yankee Stadium, 14th Street-Union Square, Jay Street-MetroTech, Flushing-Main Street, Fulton Street and three others yet to be named.
