Not holding our breaths

To the Editor:

Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), a member of the committee on the Anti-Gun Violence Bill, said that in spite of the sudden reluctance of GOP members to agree to the terms of the bill, he believes the bill will pass. I hope he’s right, because as Eugene Robinson says, any law that can save some lives — even a weak, watered-down law — is a step in the right direction. And, yes, NRA, it’s a small move down that “slippery slope” that gun worshippers fear the most. I’m not optimistic, but what I and many Americans who value life over guns hope for is the eventual reversal of the Heller decision.
