NYCERS will walk back a policy change made in January that eliminated retirees’ ability to appeal rejections for disability benefits, Rachel Assisi, the pension fund’s deputy director of communications said Wednesday.
“The NYCERS Board of Trustees resolved at its regularly scheduled meeting on September 11, 2025 to reinstate the reconsideration process for disability retirement with reasonable time limits,” Assisi told The Chief in an emailed statement. “NYCERS will be communicating regarding the updated process with all stakeholders.”
