Following a three-month training period, 158 new Troopers will be joining the State Police in mid-February. That will bring the number of rank-and-file officers to just under 3,000, according to Thomas H. Mungeer, the president of the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association.
But, he added, with 267 retirements this year through the beginning of November, that influx is insufficient.
