Workers at the New York Foundation for the Arts announced last week that they are seeking to unionize with United Auto Workers Local 2110, marking the first time in the nonprofit’s 50-year history that its staff has organized.
NYFA serves 1 million constituents annually, acting as a key player in the New York arts ecosystem. As the first arts service nonprofit to unionize with UAW, they are partaking in a broader trend of union drives at cultural institutions. UAW also represents workers at several city museums and cultural institutions, among them the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Guggenheim and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
