I have often marveled at Donald Trump’s ability to avoid consequences for his failings and misdeeds. As I noted last July, Trump accomplishes this legerdemain by changing the news cycle; preferably with some tidbit certain to gin-up his base and outrage his detractors.
Back in July, Trump thought he could stem growing MAGA dissatisfaction over his handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by simply posting that the Washington Commanders and Cleveland Guardians should go back to the offensive names they abandoned out of decency. That didn’t work.
