To the editor:
Dr. Anthony Fauci is one of America’s greatest scientists in the fight against infectious diseases in our nation in the modern era of medicine. He served as the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) from 1984 to 2022.
He advised seven U.S. presidents on domestic and global health emergencies from HIV/AIDS to SARS, Ebola, Zika and COVID-19. He was the principal architect as the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief that saved millions of lives through antiretroviral therapy access.
He has received numerous honors and awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2008, the National Medal of Science in 2005, and international awards for his public service that saved millions of lives.
The most credible scientists in the medical field have said that the accelerated scientific initiatives in fighting COVID-19 promoted by Dr. Fauci helped provide effective vaccines that saved millions of lives globally. Most believe that Fauci’s adherence to mitigation strategies including social distancing and masking were necessary, science-based measures to protect hospital systems during the high-mortality surges.
Dr. Fauci is not only a brilliant expert in fighting infectious diseases, but he is a great public servant who has dedicated his life to saving lives.
Is it surprising that an anti-science, narcissistic autocrat, Donald J. Trump would encourage his political acolytes, including the bitter and hostile Senator Rand Paul, to attack Dr. Fauci, destroy his well-earned reputation as a public servant, and even prefer criminal charges against him? Not surprising, and even predictable.
For me, Dr. Fauci, the savior of millions of lives, is not just a brilliant scientist, but like the greatest, dedicated public servants, is a saint, one who dedicates his life to help others. In their incredibly evil and shameless, politically motivated attacks on the elderly Dr. Fauci, I see Donald Trump, Rand Paul and other Republican sycophants as evil incarnate.
They are not just politically and scientifically wrong in attacking Dr. Fauci, they are ruthless criminals who have nothing to offer the American people but lies, suffering, and in many cases, death — through their attacks on science.

Mr. Gorman, though I do not condone violence, after watching the disrespectful and undignified way Rand Paul spoke to Dr. Fauci I can understand why Paul's neighbor kick the crap out of him.

Yes, reenjoe, I would not want to live in Rand Paul’s neighborhood much less next door to that repulsive hate monger.

Thank God we had Fauci when we needed him, or we would all have died of COVID-19. Bleach? Ivermectin? Internal cleanings with UV light? You can't make this stuff up. Imagine Kennedy was there.

The Freedom of Choice
I speak my mind, as you may speak your own,
By sacred rights and ancient laws made known.
The First Amendment guards our noble land,
With five core freedoms holding hand in hand:
Our faith, our speech, the press that seeks the light,
To gather peaceably, and sue for right.
The conundrum stands: do I support President Trump?
That is for you to figure out and claim.
Beyond these words, my thoughts are fully spent;
I lock my lips, and feel a calm content.

NYS just passed legislation providing Peace Officer status to hospital security guards. Guards St. Peter's Hospital and medical group received this status upgrade because violent assaults against medical staff have more than doubled since Covid.
Negative rhetoric from deranged MAGA politicians (and their voters, such as some of the comments on this page) against medical professionals like Dr. Fauci are behind the uptick in violence that necessitated the new law.
Shame on these ingrates!

Excellent responses to Word Man, the AI pseudonym maniac: Reenjoe, Admin, and Krell1349, you are spot on.
Word Man asks, does he support Donald Trump, and that is for us to figure out. Like an obsessed cult member, he worships Donald Trump. The pseudonym maniac has mental and emotional problems. Freedom to be a fool can be defended, but it's not a good choice, and when it hurts others, as Trump's cult does, it's evil.
