To the editor:
I recently read Batya Ungar-Sargon’s book, “The Jews and the Left.” It traces Jewish involvement in American politics, starting with George Washington’s praise and moving through events like FDR’s presidency and the Civil Rights movement. The book ends with a shocking revelation: the 21st-century Holocaust committed by Hamas on October 7, which wasn’t universally condemned by Americans.
Batya noted that she had written the book to answer the question: “Why do Jews vote for Democrats when Democrats hate them?” The book’s relevance is highlighted by the recent New York and Maine primary elections.
The newly elected Democrat candidates, including Nazis, communists and antisemites, pose a direct threat to America’s values and ideals.
Maine Democrat Senate candidate Graham Platner has a chest tattoo of the Totenkopf, a Nazi SS symbol. He retweeted a post calling Judaism a “death cult” and praised Hamas’s military tactics in the 2014 execution of five Israeli soldiers.
In Batya’s book, it’s clear that many Democrats believe the radical left, not the party’s mainstream, has turned against Jews. However, few Democratic politicians are willing to confront the extremists within their party.
For instance, House Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) support Platner. We defeated the Nazis because it was crucial to us as Americans.
His candidacy should upset all Americans, not just Jews.
Antisemitism and anti-Americanism are closely linked, as the grievances against America mirror those against Jews. This is why the modern Democratic party’s slogan is: “I hate America; I hate the Jews.”

Graham Platner is a sexist pig and, possibly a Nazi sympathizer. If he has any decency in him, he will step down - as Bernie Sanders has asked that Platner do. His candidacy does, indeed, upset me.
As for the rest of the above letter, both Mr. Sica and Ms. Unger-Sargon are dead wrong. Democrats don't hate Jews or America. Democrats oppose Israel's policies towards Palestinians and Israeli attempts to seize and occupy land through military force. Democrats also oppose racist, sexist and discriminatory policies in this country.
Nationalism isn't patriotism. DEI isn't implementing quotas or lowering standards - the centuries long "old boys" system did that.

The Jews and the Left is a factual letter that narrates the current political ideology of the Democratic Party in relation to America and the Jewish community. Mr. Sica, an astute intellect, has clearly outlined the political ideology of the Democratic Party in today’s context.

Well, well, well, a day after my below comment Platner drops out of the race. Why? Because Democrats, led by Gillibrand, pressured Platner to withdraw - unlike the GOP which knows Trump is everything that Platner is and more but refuses to lift a finger.
What's the GOP's slogan? "We love authoritarianism. We love misogyny".

Graham Platner’s inclusion on the Democratic ticket was a disgraceful and offensive move, especially to the Jewish community in America. This atrocity aligns with the Democratic Party’s ideology and slogan, “I hate America; I hate the Jews.”

By now, everyone knows that Word Man is Robert Sica, just as they know I'm Richard Warren. So Sica complimenting himself in the third person shows about as much integrity as his hero, Donald Trump.

Graham Platner’s Democrat Party is full of ill-socialist elitists.
Graham Platner is a man of many vile and loathsome attributes:
He is a later-day Democrat, a tried-and-true National Socialist.
He has the Totenkopf stamped on his chest; he wears Nazi boots.
A true modern-day Democrat, he attracts countless Nazi recruits.
In his inglorious Nazi shiny boots, he snaps execrable Nazi salutes.
Mr. Platner is the voice of the Democrat Party's propaganda blitz:
He is the embodiment of the Democrat Party’s vile Nazi roots,
for the Democrat Party has been seized by Nazis in flamboyant
red dresses, and despicable black SS suits.

Thank you for your compliment, Richard Warren. I was aware for quite some time that Richard Warren was not a retired employee of the New York City Transit Authority. A person’s writing style can be a reliable indicator of their identity, much like fingerprints.

@Admin, the Germans have phrase for those who narcissistically fawn over themselves - Selbstlob stinkt. Roughly it translates to "self praise stinks".
Fyi, this wasn't the only time Sica complemented himself. As J Donne, Sica once wrote something to the effect of "brilliant closing line" in response to his own letter.
You are spot on in comparing him to Trump. Trump used to routinely call in to shows as "John" and proceed to praise himself.

Akin to my hero Forrest Gump, who after running for three years, 2 months, 14 days, and 16 hours stopped in the middle of a desert road, turned to his followers, and said: 'I’m pretty tired. I think I’ll go home now...and hang up my pen and paper for a while….

It is an abiding shame that any criticism of the state of Israel's policies towards the USA or on the world stage is mischaracterized as antisemitism. Whether Democrats, independents, or Republicans, this false equivalence has inhibited any thoughtful discussion of what average Americans would like to see in a relationship with that country

Reliable and consistent polls have shown that more NYC Jews respect and favor Mayor Mamdani over Bibi Netanyahu. What does this indicate? Just that many Jews are not turned off by socialism and they don’t trust extreme right wing.Netanyahu.

Self-praise is admirable, according to modern psychology and neuroscience. Intentional self-praise is vital for mental well-being, motivation, and personal-growth. Self-praise isn’t new. In his essay "On Praising Oneself,” Plutarch outlined scenarios where self-praise is acceptable and necessary, such as self-defense, inspiring others, and defying injustice. To maintain self-praise as a virtuous practice, it is crucial to concentrate on effort, be precise, and engage in daily reflection. Maintain a journal or meditate on your daily experiences before bedtime. If more people engaged in self-praise, they would gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the rapidly changing world that is unfolding "right before their very eyes."

According to my sources, two-thirds of the Jewish voters in NYC did not vote for Zohran Mamdani—and rightly so. You tend to spin facts. Do you honestly believe that spinning facts can influence educated people?

According to The Forward, a Jewish newspaper:
"The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey of 1,022 Jewish adults nationwide, conducted from June 11 through June 17, found that 44% of American Jews hold a favorable opinion of Zohran Mamdani, compared with 39% who view him unfavorably. By contrast, just 32% of respondents said they have a favorable opinion of Netanyahu, while 59% said they have a negative view of the longtime Israeli leader."
That is EXACTLY what Mr. Gorman said in his comments. He never claimed a majority of Jews voted for Mamdani.
It's odd that a self-professed "astute intellect" and "educated" person such as Word Man, a.k.a. Robert Sica would struggle this much to comprehend the English language.
