To the editor:
President Trump recently argued that the 60-day leeway period after which Congress must authorize a war was paused given the temporary ceasefire with Iran.
Congress, journalists and the American citizenry clearly know little about the laws of war. Trump’s ongoing blockade of Iranian ports during the ceasefire is a well-recognized act of war even when missiles and drones are not being launched.
Some 165 years ago, our citizenry understood this concept well. Americans living in the South knew they were at war when Abraham Lincoln blockaded southern ports at the start of the Civil War.
Moses called his people the “children of Israel” because in terms of knowledge of the laws of nations their minds were like the minds of little children. They had lived in ignorance for so long in Egypt.

This is my third attempt to respond to your letter. Maybe this response will be posted. Since you are all knowledgeable about the laws of war, you should request an audience with President Trump so that you can educate him as to the information contained in the official writings of that document. I am positive that Mr. Trump will welcome you with open arms when you walk into the White House, and school him on the subject of proper military execution and mandates regarding the rules of military engagement. While you are in the White House, tell Mr. Trump what you think of his domestic and foreign policies; Mr. Trump is a gracious and open-minded man, and he would, I am sure, welcome your input as to his policies both domestic and foreign—and any other pertinent information that you can offer regarding his policy agenda, especially concerning Israel and Iran.
