Just when it seemed the numerous clouds surrounding Mayor de Blasio’s fund-raising operations made Governor Cuomo seem extra-competent, if not pristine, by comparison, late last week it emerged that U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara has found more grist for his corruption-fighting mill in the Governor’s Buffalo Billion economic-development plan.
Of particular concern to Mr. Cuomo should be the focus of the ongoing investigation on possible improper transactions by his former Executive Deputy Secretary, Joseph Percoco, who was closer to him than that title can begin to convey. Mr. Percoco previously worked for Mario Cuomo, and at the three-term Governor’s funeral 16 months ago, Andrew described him as his father’s “third son.” He was also regarded as the current Governor’s political enforcer, as well as a close confidante.
