To the editor:
There is a serious problem in this country for my generation, or anyone seeking a job for that matter.
I am 21 years old with an associate's degree in accounting, and I have been applying for possibly hundreds of jobs. Out of all of those jobs however, I am lucky to get a single response. And these are entry-level jobs, mind you.
Yet still, nothing.
And it isn't just me either. There are probably thousands, if not millions just like me, and it's even worse if you are older and have no one to support you but yourself.
Fortunately, I am not in that position, but people who are employed or retired have no idea how frustrating and humiliating it is to seek a job today. It might be harder to find work than it is to actually work.
No American should have to go through this. I am not asking for a $100,000-a-year job, I am only asking for a simple job that allows me to contribute to my country, community and family. If all else fails, I suppose I could join the Army.
But know this: if things do not substantially improve in this country in terms of the economy and job market, you will have either a communist or national socialist revolution in this country in the next decade or two, led by young Americans like me.
For the record, I am opposed to both ideologies; I consider myself a "radical moderate" who neither supports revolution nor dismantling our country. However, there are an alarming number of people my age who do and will try and do so if their standards of living further deteriorate.
Remember what Roosevelt said, "People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made."

Ryan, I am retired and certainly not in the difficult position you (and many others) find yourself in. However, I do have many nieces and nephews who share your situation and have expressed the same exasperation with the difficulties of chasing the "American Dream".
I know that many politicians are crying "communism" to disuade voters from supporting progressive candidates. Don't be fooled. FDR, Truman, JFK, Obama and Biden were all called communists by conservative Republicans. Those "communists" gave us Social Security, Fair Labor Standards, Union job protections, OSHA workplace safety, Medicare, Medicaid, the 40 hour work week and more.
Keep sending out resumes and take every Civil Service test you qualify for. Best of luck.
