The world's cop is back on the beat

Posted

To the editor:

The president “will attack Iran in the not too distant future because it will help him win the election," he “will attack Iran, in some form, prior to the election," he “will at some point attack Iran to save face," he “will someday attack Iran in order to show how tough he is” and he “will attack Iran because of his inability to negotiate properly – not skilled!”

  It might seem these statements were directed at Donald Trump by prominent Democrats prior to the Feb. 28 bombardment of Iran by U.S. forces; they weren’t.  Every statement was made by Trump about President Barack Obama prior to and after the 2012 election.

In 2024, candidate Trump eschewed U.S. military adventurism saying past policy amounted to “Let’s kill people all over the place and let’s make a lot of money for those people that make the messes” and that if elected he will “turn the page forever on those foolish, stupid days of never-ending wars” because he was “the only president in generations who didn’t start a war."

Finally, Trump said this in the past that “our policy of never-ending war, regime change, and nation-building is being replaced by the clear-eyed pursuit of American interests. ... It is the job of our military to protect our security, not to be the policeman of the world.”

Trump’s war of choice against Iran marked the eighth time he has used military force since taking office a little over a year ago.

I guess the world’s cop is back on the beat.

    Wrong Again!

    Another fabrication of a distorted imagination. The reason Mr. Trump is attacking Iran is because Iran seeks to annihilate the free world, not as the letter surmises.

    Regime change is fraught with numerous precarious uncertainties. The removal of one dictator often leads to the emergence of another, perpetuating the cycle of authoritarian rule. It is evident that the author lacks a comprehensive understanding of historical events and the underlying motivations behind Iran’s nefarious actions.

    Hey Word Man, I don't know what your objections are regarding this letter. Nearly every single word is a direct quote from Donald Trump.

    If you have an issue with the letter, take it up with Trump. Apparently, you have a problem comprehending the English language.

    @Joseph Cannisi

    It's like déjà vu all over again! This is indeed a war of choice. Haven't we learned ANYTHING from the last 20 years? These quagmires are virtually impossible to escape from before too many American lives are lost and we've spent too much on war and not enough on domestic support for our citizens.

    What's wrong with your letter, Joseph Cannisi?

    It’s fiction and predilection, laced in contradiction.

    "Delusional little man!"

    Your letter is a fallacy.

    Many English discrepancies.

    A letter of mediocrity.

    Boring, it lacks ingenuity.

    Like you, little man, commonality.

    Your lack of history is reality.

    Your speculations are of low quality.

    Your crass letters lack prophecy.

    You are a man of despondency,

    of no consequence, crotchety.

    Living in a country of autonomy,

    You write letters of immodesty;

    write letters of Trump fictitiously.

    You write letters histrionically.

    Historians laugh concomitantly.

    "Delusional little-man!"

    @wpeakes, you are correct in saying that we have learned little since GHW Bush launched our first wrong-headed war in Iraq. So many lost lives, resources and treasure, by all sides.

    As for Robert Sica, he resorts to insults and distractions when faced with uncomfortable facts. I guess some folks never grew beyond their school yard "I'm rubber you're glue" phase.
