To the editor:
A recent letter (The Jews and the left) paints Democrats as antisemitic and anti-American. That is a lie. The truth is Democrats believe in social justice; what the far-right derisively calls “political correctness."
Democrats aren’t afraid to confront injustice, in our country or abroad. Americans enslaved human beings, slaughtered native populations, took native lands, denied women the vote for 144 years, removed democratically-elected foreign leaders, installed puppet governments and engaged in needless wars. Calling that out and demanding we be better isn’t anti-American, it’s a moral responsibility.
Israel’s response to the horrific Oct. 7 attack by Hamas has been equally horrific; nearly 75,000 killed, 90 percent of civilian infrastructure destroyed, and starvation used as a weapon of war are atrocities. It isn’t antisemitic to say that or to protest against such actions.
Rahm Emanuel traveled to Tel Aviv to deliver that message, saying “Israel doesn’t have a problem in the Democratic Party. Israel has a problem in America." He called Israel a “territorial pariah” that “lost Europe, lost America” and that Benjamin Netanyahu “has directed this ship into a wall."
"You are economically, politically and strategically more isolated than you have ever been since 1948.” Emanuel chastised Netanyahu’s expansionist “greater Israel” policy that built West Bank settlements and plans to indefinitely occupy Gaza and southern Lebanon.
Emanuel outlined a reset in the America-Israel relationship, saying Israel must “buy American arms under the same financial terms, the same restrictions, and the same requirements as every other trusted ally”; no more American taxpayer handouts. Plus, American unconditional support has harmed both countries.
Emanuel called for sanctioning Israelis who commit or support atrocities against Palestinians as well as those who build or finance illegal settlements in Gaza and the West Bank. Music to my Democratic ears!

In this essay about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Cannisi takes a wrong turn and claims that Rahm Emanuel is not anti-Israel. However, as Cannisi often does, he misrepresents the facts by being a propagandist rather than a reliable source of information.
Cannisi makes reference to Rahm Emanuel to support his false claim that the Democrats are not anti-Israel and anti-American.
To expose Cannisi’s falsehoods, I reference Rahm Emanuel’s speech at Tel Aviv University with the Jerusalem Post on Channel 12.
In Emanuel’s interview with the Jerusalem Post, the interviewer mentioned that Rahm Emanuel’s father was a fighter in the Irgun. Subsequently, the interviewer posed a question to Rahm Emanuel: “What do you think your father would say about your current remarks regarding Israel?” Then the interviewer alluded to the fact that Emanuel conveniently dropped the name of the paramilitary organization his dad fought in, Irgun, and continued to debunk key points of Emanuel’s speech.
First, I’d like to focus on your speech and address your remark that Israel is becoming a pariah state.”
If this is the cost of fighting a war on seven different fronts for three years, so be it. However, this isn’t the case. In Latin America, more and more countries are reestablishing their relations with Israel and the US.
The common thread in all these countries is that the left-wing socialist parties lost elections. “Meanwhile, here in the U.S., the party you represent is filled with socialists who hate Israel,” carried on the waves of young, educated white voters who haven’t spoken to an immigrant from the Soviet Union, Cuba, or Venezuela in their lives. Look in the mirror first.
Second, you propose a path forward and a Palestinian state. It’s unrealistic to reward the people who killed 1,200 Israelis in six hours with a state, especially given the many young soldiers who died in this war. It hasn’t worked for 77 years and won’t happen with the majority of the 10 million Israelis.
At the conclusion of the interview, the interviewer stated, “If you genuinely love Israel and are deeply concerned about its future, it is imperative that Israelis have the autonomy to make decisions that will shape their own lives. After all, it is their children who will grow up there, not yours.”

Soooo... Word Man offers the opinion of a reporter from the Jerusalem Post as proof that Democrats are anti-American and anti-Israel. What are opinions around the world? Pew Research polled people in 36 countries from Asia to the Americas and found:
"Majorities in most of the three dozen countries we’ve surveyed this year express an unfavorable view of Israel and little or no confidence in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."
That included 8 counties in the Americas from the southern tip of Argentina to Canada. NO country in the Americas holds a favorable view of Israel or Netanyahu due to their genocidal campaigns in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. Confidence in Netanyahu ranged from a high of 27% in the U.S. to a low of 13% in (Javier Milei's far-right) Argentina.
Word Man is becoming more and more out-of-touch with what's happening around the world. I suggest he stop watching Fox and broaden his information base.

Cannis, you can’t argue with facts, especially when you’re not knowledgeable about the subject. My post is absolutely spot on.

"Never Forget” and “Never Again."
It’s time for Iran’s reset to be offset,
it’s an insufferable reset to destroy,
that which is all-American…you bet.
The reset kills Jewish girls and boys,
who in exclamation shout “Never Forget."
They are the sons and daughters of Cana,
who besieged by Iran’s reset, exclaim:
"Never Forget” and “Never Again. "
“ It’s time for Iran’s reset to be offset.”
