With the April 18 graduation of 311 Probationary Firefighters, including five women, the Fire Department now has 72 women on active duty, the high point since the landmark 1982 court ruling which ended the exclusion of women from the firefighting ranks of the FDNY.
This year’s graduation set another precedent.
