An intra-District Council 37 feud over bargaining, rank-and-file democracy and union reform escalated this week when the presidents of two city-worker unions filed internal charges that seek the removal of the president of a third union, alleging she’s directed an “intimidation and harassment campaign” against the two union leaders.
Meghan Peterson, the outspoken president of Local 3005 who led a protest outside of DC 37 headquarters last month, has been accused of misrepresenting information to union members and trying to “influence, decimate and derail” the bargaining process by Mike Troman, president of Local 375 Civil Service Technical Guild, and Olivia Duong, president of Local 3778 NYPD Technical Professional Employees. The duo filed the charges with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the locals’ parent union, alleging that Peterson interfered in internal Local 375 affairs and violated the AFSCME constitution.
