115 Years after Triangle Fire, labor says profit still trumps safety

In lower Manhattan, descendants of the women workers mourn

The 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire killed 146 workers in 18 minutes. On its 115th anniversary, organized labor gathered to argue that the conditions that made it possible haven't disappeared.

Family members, union leaders and public officials renewed the fight for labor rights that the disaster helped forge, one that continues to shape protections for immigrant and women workers today.
