The NYPD has seized 3,259 guns from New York City streets so far this year, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced Thursday, as the department credited its gun seizures and multi-agency enforcement efforts with contributing to record-low levels of shootings and murders.
The figure includes 915 guns seized in Brooklyn, 782 in the Bronx, 764 in Manhattan, 605 in Queens and 193 on Staten Island. Of the total, 199 were ghost guns — unserialized firearms that the department said are designed to evade law enforcement and gun laws.
