A federal immigration enforcement operation at a Brooklyn hospital triggered a late-night confrontation involving hundreds of protesters, nine arrests and differing accounts of whether the NYPD worked alongside Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials — in possible violation of the city's sanctuary laws.
The episode began around 9:43 p.m. on May 2, when patients inside the hospital reported seeing a handcuffed man escorted by masked, armed agents. Images quickly spread on social media, drawing more than 100 protesters to the hospital within the hour.
