Burning up: UPS workers rally to get AC in trucks

During the recent heat wave that scorched New York City, with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees, several United Parcel Service workers suffered from heat exhaustion as they drove in delivery trucks without air conditioning.

“Last week on Thursday and Friday, four of our members on Long Island and in downtown Manhattan had to be taken to emergency rooms because of the heat,” the president of Teamsters Local 804, Vinnie Perrone, said during a Thursday morning rally outside the UPS Customer Center in Canarsie, Brooklyn.
