Leadership of the union representing NYPD detectives traveled to Washington May 12 to lobby Congress for legislation modeled after the proposed HALO Act, arguing local police officers should receive protections similar to those being advanced for federal immigration agents.
Leaders of the Detectives’ Endowment Association joined national police union officials and representatives of the New York State Public Safety Alliance on Capitol Hill to support the legislation that would establish a 25-foot buffer zone around officers during active law enforcement operations and criminalize certain forms of interference, harassment and close-range filming after a warning is issued.
