A former New York City Department of Education business manager who went on to consult for the DOE has been sentenced to six months in prison after admitting he rigged bids on contracts at nearly 30 schools, siphoning more than $140,000 from the system and undermining procurement safeguards meant to protect taxpayer dollars.
In addition to the prison term, Victor A. Garrido, 47, of Peekskill, and his company, TranscendBS LLC, were ordered to pay $141,511 in restitution to the DOE. Garrido had pleaded guilty in March to violating federal antitrust law prohibiting unreasonable restraints of trade.
