FDNY firefighters, lieutenants, captains and battalion chiefs on the job for at least 25 years will receive a longevity bonus to their pension payouts under a sweetener included in the $268 billion Fiscal Year 2027 New York State budget.
Firefighters in any uniformed rank that reach 25 years of service will have a five percent increase added to the final average salary used to calculate their pension benefit from the New York City Fire Pension Fund under new rules signed into law May 27. The bonus increases by one percent each year that firefighters remain on the job past their 25th year up to 15 percent, or 35 years of service.
