Firefighter union heads join nurses on picket line

Posted

Leadership of the Uniformed Firefighters Association joined unionized nurses on the picket line Jan. 15 outside of Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in a show of solidarity with the frontline healthcare workers. Nearly 15,000 nurses who are members of the New York State Nurses Association from Mount Sinai, Montefiore and NewYork-Presbyterian have been striking since Jan. 12, in what is the largest strike of nurses in the city's history.

“Firefighters know what it means to be on the front lines," Andy Ansbro, the president of the UFA who was present at the picket, said in a statement. "Nurses are essential to public safety and patient care, and we stand with them in solidarity."

Ansbro was joined by Noah Mueller the union's Manhattan trustee and Michael Schreiber, the UFA's sergeant at arms and health and safety officer, both of whom walked the picket line wearing firefighter bunker gear.

I just wish Ansbro & Company would stand with NYC Medicare Retirees whose Earned Healthcare ,the Nurses are fighting for, he got Actives to trade away FOREVER. To Fund Actives meniscal raises & more which will be spent on ever increasing Co-Pays.At least Actives got some more pennies. Retirees got sold out!

    Shame on you Andy!!!!!
