Six days after securing a robust new contract for his members, Patrick J. Lynch, who for 24 years has fiercely and sometimes brashly advocated for NYPD officers and his profession, said he would be stepping down as president of the Police Benevolent Association when his term ends in June.
In announcing Tuesday that he would not be seeking a seventh term and noting the 2025 expiration of the tentative contract, Lynch, 59, said any new round of negotiations would have him bargaining with the city as he reached the NYPD’s mandatory retirement age of 63.
