Nearly 1,000 professional and non-professional staff at The Metropolitan Museum of Art last week petitioned the National Labor Relations Board for a union election, joining a wave of museum workers across the country seeking collective bargaining rights.
The organizing effort, which would unite full-time and part-time employees across several departments, reflects years of growing concerns over pay inequity, job security and what workers describe as top-down decision-making that has reduced benefits and added to their workload.
