NYPD exodus eases, but still at historic highs

Retirements and resignations at the NYPD declined somewhat in the first half of the year, but still remain at historically high levels, with one union official calling the continuing exodus “a crisis” for policing in the city. 

Through June, 1,027 officers had retired, according to the Police Pension Fund, fully 30 percent fewer than the 1,472 who retired in the first six months last year.
