Retiree advocates are frustrated by what they say is District Council 37’s reluctance to help retirees apply for their share of a $53 million settlement covering 250,000 public-sector retirees enrolled in EmblemHealth’s GHI Senior Care plan. The settlement that was finalized over the summer covers retirees who were charged $15 co-pays for medical visits and treatments between January 2022 and January 2023.
Eligible retirees can secure their portion of the settlement by submitting their receipts for their co-pays, and some are receiving payouts of over $1,000 said Marianne Pizzitola, the president of the New York City Organization of Public Sector Retirees. Those without receipts can get back 40 percent of what they paid, up to $100.
